Sweet Teas Southern Cuisine (Norfolk)

Yesterday I was scheduled for an NST (Non Stress Test) at Norfolk EVMS. My driver who takes me to appointments got me there to discover they were closed for the 4th of July. (If you need transportation services contact Diane at Wonderfully Made Services, LLC 757-232-2467) Weird!! I was my drivers only pickup. She asked if I was hungry (Lawd when am I not hungry) She had her husband with her so she decided to look up some soul food spots in the area. Her husband is vegetarian so it was important to find a place that would cater to his needs. The first few spots she found turned out to be closed for the holiday. Finally she came upon Sweet Teas and called ahead to verify if they were open. Finally we found somewhere to go!!!

Upon walking in the soul music hit me like I was at home. Luther Vandross was playing. The relaxed ambiance set the tone with soft lighting. We were greeted immediately and then seated in one the booths against the wall. Moments later our waiter came over to take orders. With this being my first soul food experience I wasn't quite ready to place an order yet until I went over the full menu options. My driver and her husband placed their orders. The waiter came back again a few minutes later with our drinks ( I decided to stick to water) and a small basket with cornbread muffins. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture because hunger clouded my brain lol.

I could taste a hint of sweetness in the muffin which was good but a little on the dry side. These were a little darker in color so I assume the were left in the oven a little longer than intended. It was still edible though. After about ten minutes of indecisiveness and looking at plates being taken to the other surrounding tables, I called the waiter over. I ordered the Southern Fried Fish Entree. If you order an entree it comes with two sides and an order of cornbread muffins. I do want to note that It was very busy but whenever we called the waiter over, there were no problems getting whatever we asked for. He did bring over another basket of cornbread muffins.

Yessss!!!! Sweet Tea's redeemed themselves. This second order came to the table moist with that same hint of sweetness. A+ on the cornbread. My driver and her husbands food came to the table
Turkey wings with gravy, Collard greens with Mac and Cheese
Fried Okra, Broccoli with Candied Yams (Vegetarian Plate)

My driver got lucky because she initially ordered rice and gravy but got the mac and cheese by mistake. I like that they let her keep it and still gave her what she ordered (sorry not pictured) I was in awe of the portion sizes. Definitely good bang for your buck. Nothing prepared me for my plate though.

That fish was huge!!! I ordered the Whiting.  I'm personally accustomed to a more seasoned fish but I have to remember that everyone's taste is different. Some salt did the trick. As you can see I ordered two side of the Mac and Cheese. I didn't regret it either. The cheese was just oozing with every bite and nicely seasoned.

Overall I give this place two thumbs up.
I still can't believe I didn't eat all my food in one sitting lol. My baby and I had the itis for real.
