Benny Deluca's

So here's another SUPER LATE POST. I know, I know....I've got to do way better!!!!

This post comes from my short stay in Charlottesville, VA. My newborn son was in the UVA Children's hospital PICU recovering from heart surgery, It was my birthday and I was kind of depressed. I slept all day. I promised myself a day of rest since I had been going non-stop to see my baby boy swollen ankles and all. I decided to take a walk to clear my head and that's when I happened upon this spot. Pizza sounded good. I was captivated by the sign in the front.

Ok! Let's see what The Virginia Slice looks like. The inside looks like a euphoric hang out spot. Not classy or updated but it's not a dump. It's right by UVA so the location is perfect for the student stretching their last few dollars. You can tell the appeal of this place instantly gravitates to a younger crowd. There was a deal listed for all Pokemon Go players on their bulletin board.

I'm not even going to lie. I gasped at the sight of the prices. $5 for a slice?? I need to know how big these are. I asked the cashier and he gladly showed me. Ok I'm satisfied that slice size is worth it. Instantly reminded me of NYC.

Looking up and seeing The Benny's Challenge was reminiscent of the places shown on Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. I see that they have a winners board ( Sorry not pictured). In case you can't read the photo, The rules state that you have to eat a whole 28' pizza in under an hour to win a $500 cash prize, champion T-Shirt and of course bragging rights. I would love to have seen someone take on this monster in person

So here's my slice. I haven't had a pizza slice this big in a very long time. Soooo... how was the taste?
On a scale of 1-5 with one being horrible and 5 being delicious beyond measure I'd score this a 3 1/2 as good enough to get by. It wasn't bland but I'd prefer a more seasoned sauce like the Italians do it. Besides the taste, I'd say this was NY style pizza. The crust was thin and perfectly crisp. That cheese was run down your chin and stretched out gooey goodness good. I love that there were enough pepperoni on the slice to enjoy with every bite.

You ever been to Benny Deluca's??? Let me know your experience in the comment section
